Tour De Shawnee, October 24th, 2009 Tour de Shawnee Presented by Wood & Huston Bank
Tour de Shawnee will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 and will originate at the Horseshoe Lake Community Center located on State Highway 3 in Olive Branch, Illinois. Pre-registration will be on Friday October 23, 2009 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and Saturday October 24, 2009 from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.
The early registration fee is $ 20 if postmarked by October 9, 2009; after that date the registration fee is $ 25. Children 14 and under are free with an adult registered rider. Entry fee includes an event bag and chance for attendance prizes. The early entry fee also includes a commemorative event t-shirt.
Tour de Shawnee will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. Riders may choose from a Century ride (100 miles), a Metric Century (62 miles), a Mid-length ride (30 miles) or a Leisurely route (15 miles).
Because the event is a tour, not a race, riders are encouraged to ride at a rate appropriate to their training and ride objectives. The routes will wind through terrain that includes easy-ride flat stretches, rolling hills as well as a few challenging hills. Rest stops with food and fluids will be conveniently located along the routes. A mechanic will also be on duty for emergencies.
Each participant will be required to review and sign a release of liability in order to participate. For participants under the age of 18 years a designated responsible adult must accompany the participant.
Entry fees will be used by Alexander County Tourism for supporting tourism and expansion of bicycling in the county. SIDEZ will use their portion of the proceeds to establish the Willard Murrie Scholarship at Shawnee Community College. The scholarship will benefit students with a record of volunteer service to their community.
